It would be very helpful if QB would be able to pass User Data to EC2 instances on startup

It is convenient to use user data, because from within an instance you can retrieve the data by querying a fixed address (
http://169.254.169.254/latest/user-data
) without any authorization, so this way you can pass extra startup parameters.
