Renaming the root configuration causes an error when you click on 'dashboards':

Can not find configuration 'root'.

I like to re-name the root configuration to indicate the name of the server host.

In this case, you should be able to back to dashboard in failsafe mode, change relevant gadget settings to de-reference the configuration of name "root". Then switch back to normal dashboard mode.
