I see it like this:
There is a gadget were you can specify up to 10-15 configurations.
Maybe some of them recursively.
For each one of them will be created a box with the configuration name in the middle and additional information in lower third.
Color will be based on last finished build.
Additional info can be - running circle for running build, junit results (total/failed), etc.
When you hover over the box you'll see the regular build snippet like in the configuration tree at the end of the line.
This will give a nice overview at one glance of the configurations relevant for a project.
Today this information is not very visible, since when a continuous build is running you can't see the status of you code.
