QuickBuild

Export/import dashboards

 Description  « Hide
It'd be extremely useful to be able to export/import dashboards individually, such as through the Administration dashboard section. Users and Administrators alike can create fantastically usable dashboards, but getting dashboards into another QB server without creating an identical clone from backup of an existing server (or manually recreating gadget by gadget on the new server) seems to be impossible.

While dashboards are included as part of a backup of QuickBuild, they cannot be restored to another server (even by manually replacing the dashboards xml) if the same exact users do not exist on the new server as were on the old. There may be other reasons, but dashboards being linked to users seems like a large part of the problem. Perhaps an export via the Administration section would strip the user from the dashboards xml, and an import would somehow prompt for a user (or not be usable until it was edited and a user from that server was selected?)

As an example: an old QB 6.x server I was trying to clone to a new server with a new database refused to restore because there were duplicate user entries in the old database. I do not know what caused this, perhaps a bug in an old version that persisted through upgrades? I had to remove any xml files from the backup zip file that referenced users, including dashboards, to be able to restore the configurations and upgrade to a later version.

Manually recreating dashboards by hand is not fun, particularly as editing a gadget does not show you what type of gadget it is, so it takes a lot of guess-work to find the gadget before you can even hand copy the settings.

Thanks for submitting the feature request, will take care this in future versions. As to duplicate entries in QB6, have you switched to a different database with case insensitive as default mode? If so, please change it to use case sensitive and try again.
