This is designed to be so intentionally as step graph can span width space of screen and we hide the settings menu to make more room for it.

That's not unreasonable, however it feels ... unfriendly ... when you're navigating all the settings for a given configuration. The navigation is there for all the settings, so you become used to using it that way. Then, all of a sudden it's gone and unless you notice the dropdown, you have no idea how to get back to the other settings.
In the interest of accommodating both use-cases, it would be acceptable if that menu were turned into a collapsible one (like the 'Available Steps' menu on the other side). That would cater to your design in that only the bare minimum of screen space will be used when collapsed, and still enable those who want to see the navigation all the time the ability to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree this is a bit confusion. Will try to get it addressed in a future version.
